Smino Drops New Ear Candy + Visual, “Trina”
St. Louis’ own Smino has been a super storm in the industry for some time now. Since his last full length project, 2018’s “NØIR”, hes been tiptoeing his way between being hip-hop’s best kept secret and a household name. The Interscope artist is here again to reaffirm his spot as a Great, with his new Kenny Beats & Lido-produced single & video combo “Trina”.
The song tells a colorful story of Smino’s first time in Miami, hence the title “Trina”. Smino soulfully raps & sings through the track, with an ease that only comes from being a soon-to-be seasoned musical veteran. He’s so sure of himself on this one it’s almost comedic, in a ear-intoxicating way original to himself alone. The child. directed video is just as fun, with vivid color schemes and wardrobe choices that your eye won’t soon forget. The Friday film-inspired scenes are sure to be nostalgic, but perhaps the most entertaining bit from this video is Smino’s “Underwater Players Ball”. The St. Louis’ emcee struts and strolls in the finest mink trench coat we’ve seen so far this cold season, a real ode to add to his Trick Daddy name drop on the hook. The single & video together are the perfect attention-grabber for whatever’s next to drop from our favorite Missouri artist, which I’m gonna throw the chips out on the table and say is a new project. (Hopefully?)
Regardless of what’s to come, “Trina” is some of the best material we’ve gotten so far this fall season. Watch the official video for yourself above, and stream Smino’s new record, and “Trina” here.
