New York City Rapper, Bert Knox Delivers His Tranquil New EP

In 2020, traditional Boom Bap Hip-Hop is without a doubt fighting an uphill battle. It’s not so much that the listener would rather hear melodies over lyrics, it’s just that the ambient production that is often associated with Boom Bap is just not what the culture wants at the moment. Taking things a step further, NYC rapper, Bert Knox is not your cliche Boom Bapper. Instead, he takes thought provoking lyrics and places them over easy-production, making way for his impressive solo EP, Wavebaby.
Comprised of 3-tracks, Wavebaby is a stout appetizer that highlights some of the best qualities that Bert has to offer as an artist. Featuring appearances from his fellow members of thebaremax, lamuse and yeahCALEB, the first two songs find Knox sparring with his contemporaries, all of them leaving a solid impression. But it was without a doubt the last song, “Twenty Sixteen,” that is the highlight of this project. Produced by Lui and O Capitalista, “Twenty Sixteen,” is a thoughtful, engaging record that finds Bert rapping by himself, nonstop for about 2-minutes, which is perfect, as it gives the dedicated group member a chance to let the world know just how talented he is.
