Collectives will never die in Hip-Hop, not if there’s anything that I’ve got to say about it. I mean, think about it. No, like really, sit down and think about some of your first favorite rappers ever. I’m talking about what made you a fanatic of the genre. Chances are, it stemmed from the undeniable energy that groups like Wu-Tang, Dipset, ODD Future, Pro Era and more have had, as there’s something special about a group of people bouncing rhymes off of one another. Hailing from New York City, ascending collective thebaremax hopes to be mentioned in the same breath as the previous groups one day, and if their new project, Pulp is any indication, that goal may be more attainable than they think.

Comprised of five members (Bert Knox, lamuse, 5dgirl, GLENWORLDTOUR and yeahCALEB), thebaremax is an interesting group of members. Utilizing a pack of crispy, laid back production, the five artists collectively sound great together, never once making it feel like there wasn’t enough room on the beat. Whether its the soulful contributions from 5dgirl on, “Matters,” Bert Knox’s scorching pen on, “While You’re Matter,” or lamuse’s overall ability to take lead on the project, congestion is never prevalent and everybody gets their chance to shine — which is not an easy feat when it comes to group projects.

With ego seemingly out of the picture, there’s no reason that thebaremax shouldn’t be able to come together to give us a couple of these every so often. Until they do, press play on, Pulp below and get familiar with NYC’s newest collective.
