Traditionally, Los Angeles is more or less known in the Hip-Hop community as where Gangster Rap started, and they’re right. Due to this, the stigma that surrounded the sub-genre during the 80s and 90s has stuck with California to this day, with many people assuming that’s what the city is all about. While there is no shortage of Thug Rap in the city, now or ever, it has been nice to see a light shine on a different sector of the scene. Utilizing his expansive network, L.A. artist, ForeverKofi doubles down on his enticing 2019, by kicking off the year with his engaging EP, Love.

Consisting of 4-tracks, the project is at a perfect length, to me. Taking advantage of all the love in the air during Valentine’s Day, Love is a 4-song exploration of some of the different sides that love has to offer. Whether it’s protection, “True Love,” risk taking, “Used To,” and everything in between, the project accurately highlights the versatility of Kofi’s pen. But, still, the most impressive quality of the project has to be the improvement in Kofi’s vocal range. Known more as a rapper, I was very intrigued at the way Kofi was able to bend his vocals, and infectious mix them in post-production to make for one of the more impressive vocal switches we’ve seen this year, so far.

Take a listen to ForeverKofi’s new project, Love below and get familiar with Kofi’s rebranding pivot.
