Once recognized as one of America’s most fruitful cities, Detroit took a turn for worse when the major motor companies that had been supplementing countless factory jobs had started to shut down or relocate. For the people that lived there, that meant finding new ways to generate income, which weren’t always the most legal. Hailing from this exact environment, rising Detroit rapper, Silent 313 documents his perspective on these situations on his incredible new project, Bebe’s Son.

Clocking in at 23-minutes, the overall continuity of the album benefits from a few different notions, but perhaps most notably from it’s production. With PERFECT10 (3AMSOUNDS & 7Sent) exclusively handling production, it’s immediately clear how comfortable Silent is to anybody that’s previously listened. Sounding poised, confident and ready for his moment, he kicks off the album with, “Crooked Smile,” which instantly showcases his improvement as a storyteller by painting a harrowing picture of growing up in Detroit. From there, he calls on features from BabyTron, Richie Bux, Chuck Brilliant and more to help tell the story of how Silent overcame the rough influences of Detroit, despite not having his father present. In fact, songs like, “Purple Rain,” and, “Mando,” help establish the notion that he did it in spite of that, hence the name of the album, Bebe’s Son, which is a fitting tribute to his Mother, who helped him navigate the waters.

In all, Bebe’s Son does a brilliant job of showcasing Silent’s improvements as a songwriter. Already known for his ability to turn up a track and provide infectious energy, his ascension as a storyteller will help make him one of the most exciting new artists out. With Detroit experiencing a renaissance as well, it would be wise to hop on the bandwagon sooner than later. Listen to the album below.
