Dallas Rapper Charles K. Releases Amazing New Album
2020 has been a strange year for us all. With everything but a fire and brimstone apocalypse going on, it can be hard to find ways to reaffirm our sense of normalcy. One of the sole things that got me through this epidemic was great music. A good song affects not just your hearing but all your senses; great music can remind you of the warm feeling of outside while stuck in a cage. Victory for Hip Hop 2 by Charles K., a sequel to his 2015 album of the same name, is a 10 track musical environment that creates its own landscape, sonically teleporting you to Dallas no matter where you may be in the world. My only regret with this project is coming across it months after release, because I could have used this album to help me through the summer.
Victory for Hip-Hop 2 starts out with a jolt, intro track “The Statement” is a lyrical thesis that shows us exactly why this album is worth cutting on. Charles K. wastes no time delivering bar after bar about solidarity, perseverance, and street knowledge. His wordplay is akin to that of TDE’s Isaiah Rashad; mixing impressive flows with country slang, unapologetic about the listeners sensitivity to regional rap politics. Through the middle of the album Charles leans more on melodics, creating standout moments on tracks like “Night Off/ On 10” and “Choose” ft. Dub Shakes. The artist uses these tracks to show his…
