Los Angeles, (South Central to be more specific), has been on another musical run lately. With new rappers popping up daily to support the areas signature “ratchet” genre, many of the other sounds coming from this Southern California get drowned out. To combat that, Compton singer Garren drops a soothing new single titled “Wake Up”.

Spacey synth riffs and slick bass lines open this smooth R&B offering from the Compton singer. Garren is in a league of his own, as his local peers seem more inclined at attempts of being the life of the party, rather than wooing the ladies with empowering lyrics sharp singing voice. Lines such as “Ain’t no such thing as perfect”, and “Who are you trying to be? You’re already someone”, show that the singer is over superficial appearances. Garren, without seeming to be trying to, makes an anthem for women dealing with self-esteem and identity issues. When you hear positive words from a voice as confident as Garren’s, you might want to listen. He’s giving good game in the most subtle way possible, in the form of a infectious hit single.

On “Wake Up”, Garren gives us a prideful assurance that should make even the most fearful spirits a sense of confidence, or at the very least get them to dance. The Compton singer has been traveling the world and we’re excited to see what other sounds he brings back. Listen to “Wake Up” here, now.
