Buzzing Las Vegas Native, Asaiah Ziv Unleashes His Anticipated New Project, ‘Trap Cobain’

Las Vegas artist, Asaiah Ziv has been one of the more recognizable names in Las Vegas Hip-Hop for the last decade or so, and he’s not even 25 yet. It’s been well-documented what he’s accomplished before, but the city without a doubt has heighten his loved for him since the release of his genre-bending debut, Free Your Soul (Side A), which has left fans pandering and begging for Side B all the way up until this day, including me. Instead, he took his progression even further, doubled down and delivered his best body of work to date in, Trap Cobain.
Produced mostly by Asaiah himself and only sporting one guest feature in Keith Canva$, Trap Cobain falls right into my favorite category of artists utilizing projects to tell their own story, not somebody else’s, though the best tales are relatable. On this project, Asaiah’s story is one of a depressed, lost and talented artist that knows he should be happier with his blessings, but can’t seem to get passed his demons — something we all deal with as well. He references many things that are plaguing him, including the passing of his mother, extreme spending habits at the bar when drinking with friends and recreational drug use, among other things.
Despite the honesty he displays and the healing he does on this project, Trap Cobain isn’t all sadness and self-loathing. On songs like, “Zoe Kravitz,” and “Prissy,” he displays a lighter side. Utilizing high-tempo melodies and bass-kicks to take some time and see the beauty in life — particularly women — he uses these two records, as well as another few, to have a little fun before heading back home to simmer in his own thoughts.
In all, Trap Cobain seems like it was very hard for Asaiah to create. Tapping into those emotions is never easy. But, it did also sound healing. Just listening through the music, you can hear putting this all on wax is helping him, even if it’s just a little bit. We’re just lucky he decided to share it with us. Check out the project below and get hip to Asaiah Ziv.
