Meet the Bronx’s new savior 645AR. You may have seen heard his high pitch vocals while scrolling through your twitter feed of memes. Or maybe while swiping through Tik-Tok challenges, one of which has went viral for it’s racially charged themes where users call out stereotypes on other races & groups, set to his new song “Yoga”. While most rappers would shun a viral moment based on prejudice, 645AR embraces it and doesn’t care which direction it comes from. He could focus on the negative aspects but chooses to use it to further his popularity, doubling down with a brand new eye-popping visual to accompany his burgeoning hit.

The video opens with 645AR watching pandemic themed news when he’s greeted by the extraterrestrial animated thingamabob “Flexo-19”. Together our quarantine duo embark on a journey of epic proportions; from playing b-ball, to making beats, to driving a fast car (piloted by the all too real Flexo). The playfulness of the visual is the perfect match to 645AR’s music, whose high-pitched vocal cadences and dynamic energy have been likened to that of a cartoon character. Together he and his comic comrade take New York City by storm, at one point shooting laser beams into an all too empty Time Square. The video never gives us a break, mixing exuberant colors and effects with adventure of unreal heights. By the end of the video, Flexo-19 decides he’s had enough of our godforsaken planet and self destructs right in 645 AR’s palm. The last thing our ears catch is a snippet from the previously leaked track Russia”,(645AR’s next viral hit?) which hopefully may feature a return of our alien buddy Flexo-19.

In the year 2020, artists have to have more than just bars to catch our attention: the entertainment quality is just as important as the music. More often than ever rappers that we wouldn’t usually take seriously lyrically are fighting that stigma by being comedic or just interesting, which is a much needed break considering the severity of recent times. For Bronx artist 645AR, he knows that he can get a leg up on his peers just purely being the lighthearted comic relief in today’s hip-hop music. His best quality though? He’s actually fucking dope.
